“Spooky” is a great workout for both chords and rhythm. You’ll practise a simple Bm7 barre chord, explore minor 7th and diminished shapes, and use the chuck strum in a few different ways across a two-bar groove.

Strumming Info - CHUCK TECHNIQUE
“Spooky” gets much of its funky, laid-back groove from the chuck strum. In the main verse pattern, the chucks are shown by the blue Xs and land on beats 2 and 4, giving the rhythm a strong backbeat feel.
As you practise, aim to make each chuck short, crisp and percussive, while keeping your strumming hand moving smoothly through the pattern. Start slowly and focus on placing beats 2 and 4 accurately before building up speed.
Once the technique feels comfortable, you can use the chuck in lots of other strumming patterns to add extra rhythm, groove and texture to your playing.
This is the two bar strum pattern that covers most of the verse sections which make most of the song. The first bar is Am and the second, Bm7.
