Set in a beautifully imagined near future, Her follows Theodore, a lonely and sensitive writer recovering from the end of his marriage. When he installs a sophisticated new operating system, he meets Samantha — an intelligent, funny and endlessly curious artificial voice who seems to understand him in a way no one else does.
What begins as companionship slowly develops into something much deeper, raising tender and thought-provoking questions about love, loneliness, connection and what it really means to know another person.
Written and directed by Spike Jonze and starring Joaquin Phoenix, with Scarlett Johansson as the voice of Samantha, Her is warm, funny, melancholy and visually beautiful — and won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
