COURSE MATERIAL: PDF worksheets and song-sheets will be provided during class sessions. You are responsible for looking after them and you must bring all handouts along to each session so it may be a good idea to get a folder to keep them stored in. If you lose your worksheets there will be a small fee for additional copies.
UCL ONLINE: The UCL Online video vault will enable you to access a whole range of video tutorials and MP3 play-alongs that will coincide with the course content and training to help with your home practice, which is essential for advancing your ukulele skills and techniques. At this level we would recommend at least and extra 2-3 hours training per week. You can break practice down into 20 minute sessions over a 6 day period. Take a day off to let your muscle memory rest.
COURSE COMMUNICATION: You will receive a link to join a Closed Facebook Group via email approximately one week before the course commences. A closed group means that only members of your class and the class leaders can access the group and see the content inside. This is where you can contact us out of club hours and chat to your classmates and take on the extra curricular ukulele challenges. Please keep all posts ukulele related in this group. If you do not use Facebook please email us at: email@example.com with any course related questions. We will endeavour to respond asap.
HOME PRACTICE: We recommend that you practice each of the exercises you are shown in class as often as you can in between weekly sessions. A minimum of 1-2 bite-sized, 20 minute daily practice sessions are a superb way to help you develop the essential muscle memory required for enabling your hands and fingers to obtain control of the ukulele. The video tutorials and audio play-alongs help enormously with home practice so use them to your advantage. Keep you ukulele within reach for regular practice sessions as out of sight, out of mind.
SINGING: At this level, singing is not required, as the main focus is learning the ukulele, although we love it when you give it a go. Singing is encouraged at all levels above level 1 and required at level 3.
END OF TERM CELEBRATION: During the final week of each term, all UCL Members gather for the UCL end of term celebration. There are three events throughout the year that coincide with the 3 terms; SPRING, SUMMER and the final FESTIVE CELEBRATION. This session will gather all current UCL club members together in an exclusive venue to showcase their newly learnt ukulele skills. All groups get the chance to perform along with special guest appearances from established local ukulele bands and artists. Friends and family are very welcome to attend the celebration events too. Tickets will be available approximately 3 weeks prior to the event. UCL discount available for members.
NEXT STEPS: Upon completion of this course you can apply to join the level 2.1 Basic Skills course where you will be introduced the next stage of ukulele lessons or if you feel like you could do with a bit more training at level one or have missed a few too many classes, then you are very welcome to rejoin the same course again the following term. Each term consists of different song exploration so there will be new content to learn upon repetition.
