THANKS for choosing UCL to expand your ukulele playing and music learning adventures even further at level 2.2.
This course is designed for ukulele players who have completed the UCL level 2.1 course or who have at least 1-2 years ukulele playing experience or training. See below for a detailed view of the course content. Once you have secured your payment online you will receive an email confirming your booking, some top tips on preparing for your course, terms and conditions of service, a timetable for the course with a link to join a Closed Facebook Group where you can communicate with your course leader and class mates outside of club hours and a link to set up your free online UCL Account where you will be able to access and download all course content for the duration of the course.
Once your 10 weeks training is complete you will be invited to meet up with all other UCL members at our exclusive venue to showcase you new skills at this level. Friends and family are welcome to attend these events. Tickets will be available nearer the time.
If you are unable to secure your place for the level 2.2 via this online booking system please attend our official ENROLMENT DAY on Saturday 4th January 2020 from 1.00pm at Eastfield Play Centre.
NB: All classes will only run if they pass the minimum quota of participation. In the event that your selected class time does not meet the minimum quota you will be offered an alternative class time or 100% refund.
During this 10 week course you will explore at least 6 classic songs from a range of music genres and practice the following:
- Riffs & Solos
- Some Advanced Strumming Techniques
- Moveable Chords & Scales
- Some Advanced Chord Shapes
- More Finger Picking Patterns
- 2 - 3 Part Song Arrangements
- Walk Downs, Turn Arounds and Alternative Endings
- Pentatonic Scales
- Singing & Harmonising
- Song Sheet Study
COURSE MATERIAL: To access the course material you will need to set up an account via this website. You will receive an invite link to set up your account approximately one week before the course commences. This is where you will be able to view any associated video tutorials and download all course materials, including PDF worksheets, song-sheets and MP3 downloads. You are responsible for printing and storing your own PDF sheets prior to each class. It is essential that you bring all course material to each class so get yourself a folder.
COURSE COMMUNICATION: You will receive a link to join a Closed Facebook Group via email approximately one week before the course commences. A closed group means that only members of your class and the class leaders can access the group. This is where you can contact us out of club hours, chat ukulele with your classmates and find out about all UCL out of hours activities and events. SINGING: At this level, singing is required and practiced with a variety of songs. You will learn the main melody lines for each of the songs selected and harmonies for some of them.
HOME PRACTICE: We recommend that you practice each of the exercises you are shown in class as often as you can in between weekly sessions with at least 3 hours extra practice per week. Try breaking down your practice into 30 minute sessions to help develop the essential muscle memory required to enhance your playing skills and technique. The video tutorials and audio MP3s are for assistance with your home practice, or if you miss a session, so use them to your advantage and log in regularly for updates. Keep your ukulele within reach for regular home practice sessions. Out of sight, out of mind.
END OF TERM CELEBRATION: UCL Members from all classes gather for the UCL end of term celebration at our exclusive venue to showcase their new ukulele skills. There are three events throughout the year that coincide with the 3 terms; SPRING, SUMMER and the final FESTIVE CELEBRATION. Friends and family are very welcome to attend. Tickets will be available at least two weeks prior to each event and booking is essential for all attendees. Each event features a fundraising raffle to assist some fantastic charitable courses within the local region and guest appearances from local and national ukulele bands and artists. Flyers and posters will be available prior to each event so please share them and join the Facebook event pages to keep up to date with all event activity.
COURSE OUTCOMES: By the time you have completed this 10 week course you will have expanded your song repertoire enough to the able to join the UCL busking group and will have a better understanding of music theory, scales and chord positions with the ability to move around the fretboard and change chord positions more effectively. You will develop better singing and listening skills and try out 2 - 3 part arrangements on selected songs.
NEXT STEPS: Upon completion of this course you can apply to join the UCL level 3 course where you will work towards becoming a fully fledged member of the UCL House Band and performance group or if you feel like you could do with a bit more training at level 2.2 then you are very welcome to retake the same course again the following term. Each term consists of different song exploration so there will always be new content to learn.
