UCL Online Ukulele Course (Level 1) Absolute Beginners
10 WEEK UKULE COURSE FOR ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS
FULL COURSE FEE: £119

SESSION TIMES: 6.30pm (50 mins live tutorial, 10 mins group chat & feedback/recap session)

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR:
Anyone and everyone who has no previous music playing experience who would like to give it a go. Suitable for age 18+. This ukulele is for ukuleles in C tuning (G, C, E, A).
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- A playable ukulele
- A tuner (digital or clip on)
- Access to the internet via wifi
- A Facebook account
- An email address
- A Chrome or Mozilla Firefox web browser to access Zoom (Ask for assistance if needed)
- A willingness to learn and practice independently
HOW IT WORKS:
This Level 1 course contains a variety of learning tools including weekly online lessons via ZOOM, PDF downloads, song sheets and MP3s. All Zoom sessions are recorded and uploaded to a dedicated Facebook Group for participants only, so that you can revisit each session as often as you wish throughout the duration of the course.
Each week new PDF materials are uploaded to the group within 24 hours of each session for you to download and print off or have accessible on a device in preparation for each class. There will also be a number of MP3 play along tracks associated to each of the sessions that you can download from your email address. During week 9 there will be a virtual recording session where you will get the opportunity too record a song selected by the group to showcase at the UCL Celebration event during the final week, where all UCL members meet up in the same zoom room. There will also be a raffle and some special guest performances and a chance to perform at the open mic event and meet the other UCL members.
COURSE CONTENT:
The course content is broken up into weekly modules that will help you progress at a suitable pace enabling you to explore a number of ukulele skills and techniques that will get you playing along to some of your favourite songs with a new song introduced each week to help you expand your chord, strumming and picking repertoire. COURSE CONTENT:
This course will take you from the very beginning of your ukulele journey with the absolute basics that will help you become a confident strummer with an introduction to new material each week. You will discover a range of playing styles and explore a fantastic range of songs from Brahms to The Beatles! You can expect to learn...
- How to tune, hold, fret and look after your ukulele
- Recognise parts of the uke and ukulele sizes etc.
- How to read tab, identify chord box diagrams and a variety of necessary music theory symbols
- How to change from chord smoothly
- 14 basic chord shapes that will be embedded into the song selections
- 4 fantastic strumming techniques including the calypso strum
- Basic CAGE finger picking techniques and melodic tab exercises
- Finger independence training
- 8 fantastic songs and an introduction to a 12 bar blues progression
- Basic dynamics to make your playing sound musically proficient
- Video tutorials and PDF downloads
The course fee covers all 10 weeks of live broadcast training sessions, feedback sessions plus all course content materials that can be downloaded to keep. The course content and materials are created & designed by Elaine Kinsella for the sole purposes of UCL ukulele training only and must not be shared or redistributed online or to any third parties.
If your wish to withdraw from the participation of this UCL course, you will be offered a 50% refund of the course fee if you depart within the first week of the course under reasonable circumstances. In the event that, such notice is not received by the end of week 1, fees will be forfeit in full.
If for any reason the live broadcast is experiencing problems we will endeavour to publish the sessions via another medium such as Youtube and post the link to your dedicated group asap.
