"DIRTY OLD TOWN"


This week you will explore a little bit of music theory and how to play the C Major Scale along with a ukulele version of DIRTY OLD TOWN, a song written by Ewan MacColl in 1949 that was made popular by The Dubliners and The Pogues.

Before you begin, let's do a little finger gym warm up - this week at 80BPM:

CALYPSO STRUM TUTORIAL: 

The CALYPSO STRUM (or island strum) is the most popular strumming pattern for both ukulele players and guitarists. This strumming pattern will work with hundreds of pop, folk and rock songs. It has a relaxed, bouncy feel and really brings songs to life without being complicated. It creates movement without sounding busy, which is why it works so well on the ukulele.
