"THREE LITTLE BIRDS"​

This week, you will explore Three Little Birds, a fun, 3-chord song, originally written by Bob Marley in 1977. This uplifting tune was chosen as the opening song for the 2020 World Ukulele Day celebrations at Liverpool One, where over 300 ukulele players gathered to perform and honour the instrument.
In addition to learning this song, you will delve into some essential music theory by exploring the C Major scale. You may have encountered this scale briefly in the tablature lesson, but now it's time to develop a deeper understanding of it. Mastering the C Major scale will help you build confidence in playing solos and riffs, preparing you for more advanced musical exploration during the next levels of uking at UCL.

​CHORDS

Three Little Birds is built on just three chords: A, D, and E7. If these chords are new to you, take some time to practice them individually, ensuring your fingers are placed correctly on the frets. When transitioning between chords, start slowly, focusing on smooth and accurate movement. Pay attention to where your fingers need to go next to build confidence and fluency in your playing.

STRUMMING

For this song you will play the calypso strum. During the 

C Major Scale

The C Major scale contains 8 individual notes that can be practiced to help with finger independence and will come in handy later on for those riffs and solos.
