WEEK 8

This week you will complete your final song SANTA BABY and then practice your 3 songs from this term to rehearse and prepare for the end of term celebration event the, UCL FESTIVE CELEBRATION. (More info below)

PDF DOWNLOAD

SANTA BABY song was actually written by a man called Philip Springer who penned the lyrics for this song in around 10 minutes in his Manhatten apartment with the help of his music partner Joan Javits. However, he didn’t believe the song would be a hit, much less consider it would be a song people would make famous for decades to come, but once Eartha Kit got her sassy vocals on it for a Broadway show in 1953, it became an instant hit and the top selling Christmas song that year and many others to follow, including Marylin Monroe and Madonna.
SANTA BABY

Verse Section:

Each verse section plays the chord sequence below 4 times per verse.

BRIDGE Section:

The first 3 chords of the bridge section are played over 2 bars, once with just 4 down strums and then with a calypso pattern. The final two bars play single strums that last for a measure of one bar, until the last section where you come back in with a UP/DOWN/UP on the + of beat 3 to take you back into the verse section.

OUTRO Section:

The outro section starts off similar to the verse section but after the final C and Am chords you go straight to G7 to start the final bar ending on a C on the up stroke of the + of beat 2 as follows:

THE UCL FESTIVE CELEBRATION INFORMATION

Will be your last session of the term and will take place at SEFTON PARK CRICKET CLUB on Wednesday, 6th December 2023 from 7.30pm and will include a fundraising raffle for a fantastic festival that you could all be performing at next May, JESS2VAL. This charitable festival hosted by two of our lovely UCL members to raise funds for the Owen McVeigh Foundation - helping children affected by cancer.

If you can help by donating any raffle prize gifts, please bring them into class over the next few weeks. The more the merrier! Drinks, chocolates, gift sets, uke stuff, meal/event vouchers and hand made crafts all very welcome!

RAFFLE TICKETS: Will go on sale soon and can be purchased via the website or at the event. They cost £5 per strip for 5 entries and we have a pretty special ukulele up for grabs with a tonne of ukulele accessories to go with it, plus a tonne of other fantastic festive prizes.

IRISH BINGO: In between sets, we will play a few games of Irish Bingo, which will be explained on the night, should you have never played it before. Tickets for these 3 games will be available at the venue only.

RAFFLE DONATION REQUESTS: We want to raise as much funds as possible so if you can provide a raffle gift or know of a company or small business that can help out, we would be very grateful. You can either drop them off at class over the next few weeks or let Helen know what you will be bringing to the event.

OUR HOST: NANA FUNK will be delighting us with her funky Christmas charisma, a bit of comedy and improv ukulele songs with 'ASK NANA' intervals, so make sure you have your questions ready on entry.

SPECIAL GUESTS:  The SPLINTERED UKES will be concluding the evening with a set of party rocking, electric ukulele tunes to get you up on the floor to dance off all those mince pies!

BAR & SNACKS: The bar service will be open and serving light snacks such as crisps and nuts available along with a range of alcoholic and non-aloholic refreshments, so make sure you bring some pocket money. Cards accepted too. Free mince pies for all attendees!
