Having some licks up your sleeve, are essential for creating great sounding solos. To make the most out of these licks, ideally you want to expand the blues scale all over the fretboard. The illustration below shows all 6 notes that can be played in various positions. We will use this to practice some basic licks & tricks to help you get started on your solo development.

Always remember that when creating solos, leaving space is just as important as adding notes in various places. Let some of the licks and tricks breathe. Solos can often last for 8, 12 or 16 bars, unless you are Slash or Brian May.
