At Ukulele Club Liverpool, we are passionate about spreading the joy of music and building a vibrant community centred around the underdog of all instruments, the ukulele.

Established in 2012, our club has grown to become a hub for ukulele enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels from all over the glob. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced player, we have something to offer for everyone and provide zoom and online lessons and courses so that the wonderful ukulele enthusiasts from further afield can join in too.

What We Do:
  1. Ukulele Classes for Adults: Our group classes for adults are designed to make learning the ukulele fun and engaging. Led by experienced instructors, you'll receive personalized guidance to enhance your skills and confidence, we will help you up that ladder from absolute beginner to a fully fledged winner with level 1, 2, 3 & 4 courses.
  2. Ukulele Workshops: Join our special workshops where you can explore specific themes, techniques, or styles related to the ukulele. These workshops are perfect for expanding your musical horizons and connecting with fellow enthusiasts and again, range from beginner to advanced level.
  3. Private Ukulele Lessons: If you prefer one-on-one attention, we offer private ukulele lessons tailored to your individual goals and pace of learning. Our skilled instructors will work with you to achieve your musical aspirations and can tailor lessons to meet your requirements.
  4. Buddy and Trio Lessons: Grab your friends or meet new people with similar interests, and take advantage of our buddy and trio lessons. Learning together fosters a supportive and inspiring environment, and helps cuts down those lessons fees.
  5. Gigs & Festivals: We can also be booked for external charity and community gigs and perform at, at least 3 northwestern ukulele festivals each year.
  6. UCL Fundraisers: Ukulele Club Liverpool hosts exciting trimester events, showcasing the talents of our club members and invited artists. We believe in giving back to the community. Our club organises fundraisers to support charitable causes, making a positive impact through the power of music and giving those who complete each course a sense of achievement.
  7. Extra Curricular Courses and Workshops: Beyond the ukulele, we offer a range of music-related courses and workshops, both online, at UCL HQ and various other venues. Enhance your musical journey with options like vocal training, percussion, bass introduction, performance techniques, and music technology and get in touch if you have a specific workshop you would like us to run.
  8. Rehearsal Space and Recording Studio Facilities: We provide rehearsal space for ukulele bands and artists to practice and collaborate. Additionally, our mobile recording studio specialises in capturing the unique sound of ukulele bands and soloists.

Elaine Kinsella is the founder of UCL and has been leading UCL ukulele lessons and courses from level 1-3 for over 10 years in both group settings and as a private tutor. As a multi instrumentalist, with a wealth of knowledge in music practice and theory, she teaches a wide range of playing styles such as pop, rock, The Beatles, blues, Irish folk, jazz, rock and a bit of classical. There is no song that she will not try to reimagine for ukulele.
Elaine writes her own songs and performs with the UCL music leaders as the MA MACHETES and is the official drummer of the SPLINTERED UKES.

Chris Hough has been leading the UCL Advanced level 4 classes at UCL since 2015 and has more recently starred in his very own online UCL Online Advanced Ukulele Course series.
Chris is also know as Ukulele Uff and has been performing with the UKULELE UFF TRIO since 2012. His playing repertoire ranges from the tin pan alley era of the roaring 1920's to rag time, blues, jazz and hits from Vaudeville and incorporates a range of fancy strumming styles that would give Roy Smeck a run for his money. Chris is also an excellent double bass player and used to be in a punk band back in the day.

Helen Brown was one of the very 1st UCL members to attend a UCL taster workshop back in 2012 and has been a dedicated UCL member ever since. After completing all ukulele from beginner to advanced, Helen assisted on UCL courses for a few years, before taking on the role of UCL Leader for the level 1 classes.
She is also a member of the Ma Machetes and the UCL House band and 80s trio the UKULEIGHTIES Helen has a very calming approach to teaching and will guide you through the beginners class with patience and ease.

Gemma Doherty began at UCL during our 2nd in take of ukulele courses back in May 2013 and has also been a dedicated member ever since. She was the founder of the Ukuleighties, a three piece ukulele band that set out to cover as many 80s hits as possible.  As a music leader, Gemma is also a member of the MA MACHETES and writes original songs. She has an incredible singing voice and like Helen, became a UCL leader after completing all UCL courses and assisting at the club for a few years. Gemma  also leads her own trio band called CAT PEOPLE which is described as B-Movie Blues with a feline focus.

Sara O' Connor is the newest addition to the UCL Team of Music Leaders. After joining level 1 back in January 2022 and becoming quickly obsessed with everything ukulele, she progressed to level 3 in a matter of months and after playing a string of gigs and festivals, we asked her to get involved with teaching the level 2 class to cover Gemma while she took a sabbatical. Sara is also a member of the Ma Machetes and as a qualified drama teacher, brings energy to her ukulele classes and inspires those less confident instilling the idea that with practice comes progress.

Claire Jones is our fantastic vocal coach who visits UCL HQ from time to time leading vocal courses for beginners and those hoping to develop their singing to a performance standard, always ensuring we're all practicing our lip trills and sirens.
Claire is great fun to have around and also leads the fantastic Liverpool based vocal choir known as the HOPE STREET HARMONIES. She has been tinkling on the ukulele for over a decade and is also a band member of THE LUV PUFFS, and the Ma Machetes.
