Chris is also know as Ukulele Uff and has been performing with the UKULELE UFF TRIO since 2012. His playing repertoire ranges from the tin pan alley era of the roaring 1920's to rag time, blues, jazz and hits from Vaudeville and incorporates a range of fancy strumming styles that would give Roy Smeck a run for his money. Chris is also an excellent double bass player and used to be in a punk band back in the day.

Gemma Doherty began at UCL during our 2nd in take of ukulele courses back in May 2013 and has also been a dedicated member ever since. She was the founder of the Ukuleighties, a three piece ukulele band that set out to cover as many 80s hits as possible. As a music leader, Gemma is also a member of the MA MACHETES and writes original songs. She has an incredible singing voice and like Helen, became a UCL leader after completing all UCL courses and assisting at the club for a few years. Gemma also leads her own trio band called CAT PEOPLE which is described as B-Movie Blues with a feline focus.
Sara O' Connor is the newest addition to the UCL Team of Music Leaders. After joining level 1 back in January 2022 and becoming quickly obsessed with everything ukulele, she progressed to level 3 in a matter of months and after playing a string of gigs and festivals, we asked her to get involved with teaching the level 2 class to cover Gemma while she took a sabbatical. Sara is also a member of the Ma Machetes and as a qualified drama teacher, brings energy to her ukulele classes and inspires those less confident instilling the idea that with practice comes progress.

UCL MISSION
Ukulele Club Liverpool aims to create a vibrantly sound, inclusive and in-tune ukulele community, whilst enriching the wider community through performances at charitable and community events.
The main objective of UCL is to provide a fun and inclusive service, enabling members to prove that it is never to late to start learning a new skill whilst having fun, meeting new friends and ultimately improving their well being. Learning ukulele has great attributes for promoting positive mental health with side effects such as laughing, singing and socialising - lots of socialising!
WHY UKULELE?
Why not? It is portable, affordable, fun, easy to play, great for jamming with friends and encourages further music development once you have mastered the basics. It's subtle sweet tones make practice bearable for you as a player and your loved ones who you live with and it doesn't require an oversized rig of accompanying equipment... just a few chords, a simple strum and a smile to get started :)
