With over 10 years of experience of teaching ukulele and developing a comprehensive program to get you confidently strumming some of your favourite songs in no time. Learn everything from proper ukulele holding and strumming techniques to mastering finger placements and playing your favourite songs with ease.
Our detailed lessons are lead by experienced Music Leaders and are a great way to socialise and learn as a group and also come with the added benefit of an online membership where you can watch associated video tutorials, download PDFs, and listen to MP3 play-along tracks, so even if you miss a class you wont miss out on any essential training. This course is suitable for anyone age 18+. It is an all inclusive ukulele course designed for people everyone with absolutely none, or very little previous music playing experience who would like to give it a go.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- A playable ukulele (tuned to GCEA)
- A tuner (digital or clip on)
- Access to the internet via wifi
- An email address
HOW IT WORKS: All members will receive a link via email to set up your own personal account on this website where you can log in to access your welcome pack detailing how to prepare for your ukulele course along with information on how to access to course materials and zoom meetings. All zoom meetings will be recorded and linked to your account within 24 hours of airing. You will receive your email link approximately one to two weeks prior to the course commencement so check your junk box if you do not have our email address saved. This course will take you from the very beginning of your ukulele journey with the absolute basics that will help you become a confident strummer with an introduction to new material each week. You will discover a range of playing styles and explore a fantastic range of songs from Brahms to The Beatles! You can expect to learn...
- How to tune, hold, fret and look after your ukulele
- Recognise parts of the uke and ukulele sizes etc.
- How to read tab, identify chord box diagrams and a variety of necessary music theory symbols
- How to change from chord to chord smoothly
- A range of basic chord shapes that will be embedded into the song selections
- At least 4 fantastic strumming techniques including the calypso strum
- Basic CAGE finger picking techniques and melodic tab exercises
- Finger independence training
- 6-8 fantastic songs and an introduction to a 12 bar blues progression
- Basic dynamics to make your playing sound musically proficient
NB: It is imperative that you complete all 10 sessions of this course to get the best results, however if you feel you could benefit from retaking this beginner course, rest assured that their will be new content with each term so you can build your repertoire up across the year.
