UCL1 - WEEK 8

"Santa Baby"

PDF DOWNLOAD

SANTA BABY song was actually written by a man called Philip Springer who penned the lyrics for this song in around 10 minutes in his Manhatten apartment with the help of his music partner Joan Javits. However, he didn’t believe the song would be a hit, much less consider it would be a song people would make famous for decades to come, but once Eartha Kit got her sassy vocals on it for a Broadway show in 1953, it became an instant hit and the top selling Christmas song that year and many others to follow, including Marylin Monroe and Madonna.

CHORDS:

This song features 8 chords in total and using a range of strumming patterns. By now you will have explored most of these chords throughout the course so should be familiar with them all by now.
Don't fret though as the strumming for this song can all be played with simple down strums - but have a go at the chord progressions below to make it sound a bit more fun!

INTRO Section:

The intro section use the following chord progression which is repeated twice. Listen to the audio below for a demo at 80BPM.

Verse Section:

The verse sections contains 8 bars, with each bar split between two chords each.  Look out for the down, up, down strum on the final G7 chord.

BRIDGE Section:

The first 3 chords of the bridge section are played over 2 bars each, once with just 4 down strums and then with an additive calypso pattern (Notice there is a down strum in between beat 1 & 2). The final two bars play single strums that last for a measure of one bar, until the last section where you come back in with a UP/DOWN/UP on the + of beat 3 to take you back into the C chord in the verse sections that follow.

OUTRO Section:

The outro section starts off similar to the verse section but after the final C and Am chords you go straight to G7 to start the final bar ending on a C on the up stroke of the + of beat 2 as follows:
