UCL 3 - WEEK 3
​"SWEET CHILD O MINE"

This week you will explore a 1980s rock classic,  SWEET CHILD O MINE by Guns N Roses, starting with the RIFF and SOLO for the intro section as played by Slash. 

If you have completed level 2 and level 2.2, you should be familiar with main song structure in terms of strumming and will have had a go at the intro riff and the solo section for the middle of the song.  this week we will recap the INTRO RIFF section along with the 1st SOLO for the INTRO section. 

THE INTRO RIFF

RIFF BREAKDOWN

Each two bar pattern has been broken down so you can practice them independently. The audio tracks play from 60BPM up to 80BPM to help you gain speed and accuracy when practicing.
RIFF - BARS 1 & 2 (Played over the C chord)
RIFF - BARS 3 & 4 (Played over the Bb chord)
RIFF - BARS 5 & 6 (Played over the F chord)
RIFF - BARS 7 & 8 (Played over the C chord - same as bars 1 & 2)
RIFF - BARS 15 & 16 (Played over the C chord - notice bar 16 is different from the usual riff over C)

THE INTRO SOLO (LOW G STRING)

This section comes in after bar 8 and just before the downbeat of bar 9 and is tabbed out for low G tenor ukuleles here:
The audio below contains this solo section starting at 70BPM and gradually speeding up to 110BPM for practice purposes.

THE INTRO SOLO (HIGH G STRING)

You can play the same solo part on a high G ukulele up at the top end of the neck as follows:
