"SPACE ODDITY"
This week you will explore a SPACE ODDITY written by David Bowie back in 1969. This song will introduce you to a bunch of chords including 9th chords, diminished chords and major and minor 7ths.

There are 14 chords in this song, some of which require barring, some from the more advanced levels and one that ventures out of the open fret range (E). You may notice the small no4 next to the bar position on this chord. This means you need to play the bar at fret 4.

This is a great technique to explore and once mastered will really make that lift off sequence sound fantastic.

The tremolo technique can be used for effect on the TAKE OFF sequence of the song and is a great technique to learn if you want to venture into more advanced ukulele playing territory.
The Bo chord right at the very end is called a B, Diminished 7th and can also be shortened to Bdim7. This is the chord you will use to play the tremolo effect. If you want to try a more advnaced technique you can move this chord shape up the fretboard 4 times as follows:

STRUMMING
As this song requires a lot of chord changes, the strumming will be nice and simple, mostly using down beat strums. There is also a level 3 part to this song to go with this arrangement, so should you choose to perform it at the end of term, be sure that there will be some level 3 players to take the lead parts.
