MODULE 2
The INTRO
Depending on which version you listen too, there are various intro formats for this song. We will stick to a nice and simple Major / Minor / Major 7th sequence. This has been used in variations in other popular songs such as Neil Youngs, HARVEST MOON, and KISS ME by Sixpence None The Richer, to name but a few.
OPEN POSITION CHORDS
The intro section combines a two bar strumming pattern with 3 chords as follows:
If you struggle to stretch your little finger to the 4th fret when playing back and forth from the Dm to Fmaj7, try flattening down your middle finger on the C & G string of the Dm chord. This will give you a bit more room for manoeuvring that pinky to reach the 4th fret of the C string for the Fmaj7. Check out the video below for guidance. Once you have it down, simply repeat the phrase 4 times to complete the intro section. Have a listen to the audio for the rhythm.
ALTERNATIVE CHORD POSITIONS
If you find the above section a little too difficult, or you just fancy playing in an alternative position to change it up, then try starting with the F major barred at the 5th fret (like a D Major shape) as illustrated below.
FACT: Did you know that the notes of F6 chord are exactly the same notes from the Dm7 chord?
