MODULE 3
THE VERSES
The verse section will be broken down into two 8 bar segments, with 2 bars illustrated per line. The lyrics will appear under the chord and strumming illustrations embedded roughly where they appear in the song to help you navigate each sequence.
PART 1
The good news is, you have already explored the first two bars of the verse, as the chord sequence below is exactly the same as the intro section:
The second two bars use the same two bar strumming pattern as above, except with the the following chords:
Take your time on this part as switching to barred chords can be tricky. Also note that for the D9 chord, you can continue to bar across fret 2 and use your 3rd finger to hit the note on the 4th fret of the C string.
Now it's time for some dampening to take place on beats 2 and 4 of the next two bars, as follows:
To end this phrase you return to the intro sequence on the lyric "be" as follows:

PART 2
The second part contains another 8 bar sequence. The first bar begins with some dampening and then includes a thumb roll on beat 3 of the second bar as follows:
These two bars contain the same strumming patterns as above, but replacing the E7 with a G7:
The next two bars simply combine down strums with dampened strums on beats 2 and 4 as follows:
And to finish the verse section you simply play a two bar pattern from C - C7, combining a calypso strum with a thumb roll on beat 1 of the second bar which will take you into the chorus section:
Notice how the lyric "I'll" of the chorus section comes in on beat 4 of the final bar above.

AUDIO PLAY ALONG:
Now it's time to put both verse sections together. The audio play along is recorded at 80BPM to assist with your practice at a steady pace. Try and get through the whole sequence fluidly before moving on.
Great work so far. Let's have a look at the chord sequence for the chorus sections next.
